Information for Local Authorities

As part of the study, we have spoken to a variety of local authority teams across the country. They have shared with us their experiences of working with children and parents/carers, who are or have been in the process of moving school. They have also discussed some of the practices in place in their teams for supporting children and pupils who move school outside standard transitions.

Based on these conversations, insights from children, young people, parents/carers, schools and findings from the School MOVES project, we have developed a resource for children/young people, families and schools. The purpose of the resource is to provide important information about school moves and practical suggestions for supporting children and young people who move. We hope it will be helpful for Local Authority teams working in this area, for communicating with schools and families about school moves.

We are currently in the process of piloting the resource and therefore it is not yet widely available.

If you would like to find out more about when the resource is released and how your team might be able to use it, you are welcome to contact the research team.
